Callum O'Donnell

Callum O’Donnell is from the United Kingdom and studied an integrated Masters in physics at the University of Manchester, graduating in 2015. He focused on modules relating to optics, frequency conversion and laser physics in the final years of his degree. His Masters project was entitled “Investigating Spin Switching and Magnetic Anisotropy using the Magneto-Optic Kerr Effect,” using a diode laser to probe the surface magnetic properties of thin metallic films.

He will carry out his PhD under the supervision of the ICREA Professor Majid Ebrahim-Zadeh at the group of Optical Parametric Oscillators at ICFO - Institute of Photonic Sciences and Dr. Adolfo Esteban at Radiantis, in Barcelona. His main objectives as part of the Mid-TECH project will be to create high peak power picosecond OPOs in the 1.5-4.5µm and 5-12µm wavelength ranges; using the industrial setting to provide enhancements to mechanical design, thermal/vibrational isolation and performance stability.
