At the 24th Congress of the International Commission for Optics (ICO-24) conference in Tokyo in August 2017, Mahmoud Tawfieq was the deserving winner of the OSA/SPIE Student Paper Award. His publication was titled: "972 nm Diode Laser MOPA System with 6.2 W Output Power and a Tuning Range of 5.5 nm”.
